the other day i watched Runaway Bride. a generally lame movie, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere (good lord)
Julia Roberts is a small town girl next store type, who works and the local hardware store in a tiny hole of a town in Maryland. she is known for getting engaged to men, and then literally running from the alter. Richard Gere, is a masogynistic reporter from New York who somehow picks up her story and publishes and article about her. she is insulted by the fact that she calls her a man-eater and gets him fired. so he randomly decides to show up in her town and observe her as she goes into her fourth marrige. everyone is convinced she will run away from that one too. at first, like most buddy films/romantic comedies, the two "dislike"eachother which results in many hardly humorous pranks played on eachother (julia dies richards hair three diffrent colors, how charming) they exchange witty banter and insults but soon things start to heat up and the sexual tension between the two starts to become more apparent. on the rehersal before her fourth wedding to an incredibly obnoxious soccer coach, she is having anxieties. she cant walk towards her husband but when he tells richard's character to take his place for a moment she has no problem, and then, they kiss and everything is happy. it doesnt matter that her fiance was standing right there. so then they decide to get married (julia and richard of course) even though they have hardly known eachother a month. for some reason they are convinced that julia will not run this time, but she does and richard gets mad. what the fuck? if getting married is such a problem why dont they just not get married. its not as if you have to be married to have a long term relationship. this film is stubborn, it rushed to an ending and it refused to look at that point. yet, they still manage to live happily ever after. i am coming to dislike happy endings, i cant say how thrilled i am when i come across a movie where one or more of the characters dies at the end. or the couple seperates and never speaks again, now thats real life.

i have nothing better to do today than review a lame julia roberts movie.
