Its about 1:30 PM, its fall and it’s cloudy. Our hero is seated on a metal bench, next to a deli. A paper bag sits at his left side. He is a rather peculiar looking man, he wears a gray sport jacket that is ragged around the edges, and a pair of black sweat pants which gather at the ankle just above his loafers. One of his pockets is very full. He leans forward with his chin resting in the palm of his hand. His eyebrows are thick and bushy, but his curly hair seems to be reseating. He looks about anxiously, bouncing his knee up and down. He sniffs, and then reaches into the pocket of his jacket, pulls out a wadded up receipt, he shrugs and uses it to wipe his large nose. He crushes up the receipt and tosses it over his shoulder carelessly. He scratches his face, he has forgotten to shave again.

Few people pass with the exception of a man in a giant sandwich costume handing out pamphlets. He's been walking up and down the block for over an hour. Our hero leans forward slightly and taps his kneecap with his fingertips. He sighs loudly, sniffs again, sits up and looks down the sidewalk to his right. There, walking towards him is a short, rather plump woman with a mess of curly red hair piled on the top of her head. She's wearing an emerald green suit and a pair of shiny black pumps. He picks up the paper bag and stands up. A look of relief on his face. When she sees him she smiles big and then accepts a pamphlet from the man in the giant sandwich suit, she looks down at it for a moment but then slips it into a nearby trash can. Our hero embraces the red headed woman. His kisses her cheek and then hands her the paper bag. She opens the bag, takes a large satisfying breath and then puts her hand on his shoulder and nods her head with thanks. She rolls her head from shoulder to shoulder to express exasperation and then points to her stomach. She laughs loud, sounds like a boxcar being derailed. He laughs too and wipes his brow. She raises her arms up again, pouting her lips, they hug once more and then, she looks down and shrugs and points her thumb in the direction in which she came. Our hero nods with understanding. She gestures for him to call as she walks away, he waves once more. He has nothing more to do but watch her go. Once she has left his view, he turns and begins to walk slowly down the sidewalk, hoping that she wouldn’t mind that he put jalapenos on her Italian.
